Profile

Born October 2, 1979 in Fukuoka, Japan. A paper quilling artist who creates expressive, lifelike forms using the elements of "flow, density, and space." She has developed her own creative approach, "Split & Flow," achieving a balance between delicacy and three-dimensional structure.

Current Activities

Engaged in a wide range of activities including custom-made works (gifts, corporate commissions, and personal pieces), production and sales of paper quilling jewelry, running workshops and classes, as well as exhibitions and sales both in Japan and overseas.

She has built a track record of exhibitions and sales at venues such as Seibu Shibuya, while also expanding her presence internationally. Through collaboration with a Melbourne-based Australian brand, she has broadened her expressive scope. Her works are now available locally in Melbourne and have been well received, with further international expansion in view.

Background & Motivation

From an early age, she possessed a strong sensitivity, intuitively perceiving subtle emotions and atmospheres. Through piano, which she began at age six, she explored ways to express feelings beyond words and developed a deep connection with her inner world.

Experiencing a sense of disconnect from her peers and environment, she went through a period of school refusal. Although she aspired to pursue music, she gave up entering a music university due to family circumstances. She then explored her unique form of expression through activities such as working with a talent agency, singer-songwriter training, and modeling.

In her early twenties, she was forced to abandon music due to a voice disorder. This became a turning point, leading her to seek ways to express emotions through color and form rather than words or sound. She expanded her expressive range through makeup, color therapy, and nail art.

In her mid-30s, she began creating and selling handmade accessories. In 2021, she encountered paper quilling and began learning it independently, quickly progressing to commissioned work. The encounter with this technique — rooted in European tradition — resonated deeply with her appreciation for Art Nouveau aesthetics and organic decorative forms. She has since committed to projecting all of her life experiences and emotions into this medium, pursuing the expression of "making emotions visible" through paper.

Strengths & Characteristics

She has established a distinctive style that brings a sense of life into form through "flow, density, and space" using paper as a material. Her work transcends conventional decorative quilling, evolving into sculptural and structural expressions. Rather than starting from fixed shapes, her process begins with "flow," drawing out the inherent energy and movement of paper to create one-of-a-kind forms.

She has also developed her own technique, "Slit Cutting," which enables deeper and more dimensional expression. In 2026, this evolved into a structured creative approach called "Split & Flow," achieving both delicacy and three-dimensionality.

At the core of her work is the desire to create expressions that reach people's hearts using the familiar material of paper. Incorporating insights from psychology and color therapy, she recognizes the calming and healing effects that both creating and viewing her work can bring.
